A Spirit Seed advisor will work with you and recommend courses to complete your program. We will support you in selecting courses from a wide range of topics, including:

    Indigenous, Ancestral, and Diasporic Psychologies

There are many models of soul and soma, and various cultures that have used nature as an organizing principle of psyche and personality. Many of these nature-based archetypal systems have survived Western colonization, including Five Element Theory, Ayurveda, the Dagara system, the Native American medicine wheel, and Ifa. This area of exploration re-establishes the theories and principles of eco-psychology within their indigenous roots, allowing us to gain from the incredible wisdom of our ancestral lineages.

    Plant Medicine

Training in plant medicine helps practitioners to embody the understanding that the natural world has intelligence, and is animated by life force and consciousness. Practitioners access this consciousness by working with the subtle energies of plant medicinals in the form of herbs, flower essences, essential oils, and dietary theory. Training in additional plant medicine modalities reinforces our respect and reverence for the intelligence and interconnectedness of nature.

    Sustainability & Eco-Therapy

As we learn from the Nature, we must also be actively engaged in her protection and sustainability. Reciprocity requires that humans play an active role shaping and building practices that protect and support the environment. Sustainability courses instruct practitioners in tangible ways that they can create a life-celebrating society in which human and non-human life is sacred, as well as enforce accountability for actions that create disharmony. This may include a critical examination of how to reduce your carbon footprint, as well as and exploration of social activism paths to engage in the many environmental issues that are of concern in the 20th century. Independent study might include urban gardening or composting, outdoor exercise, dietary theory, or any number of practices that encourage humans to perceive, interact and engage with nature.

    Liberation Psychology and Decolonization

Liberation psychology and decolonization electives explore the systematic forces that continue to disconnect indigenous people from their land, land ownership, and natural resources. This area of exploration critically examines environmental racism, as well as cultural histories of oppression and trauma.

    Therapeutic Strategies & Practice Management

This area of study focuses on different ways of honoring the practitioner- patient relationship through clinical skills such as reflective listening, motivational interviewing, and active empathy. In addition, holistic practice management and courses to build administrative capacity are also valuable to emerging practitioners.

    Encountering the Sacred

Flower Essence Therapy involves supporting clients as they create a harmonious, reciprocal relationship between self, the world, and the Sacred. These electives support practitioners as they enrich their personal or professional practice with tools such as guided imagery, creativity, mindfulness and meditation. These tools help both practitioner and patient ground into their relationship with the earth as relationship with the Sacred.

    Research and Education

Spirit Seed students are encouraged to expand the field of Flower Essence Therapy. Elective credits can be earned by completing additional plant research studies and clinical case studies. Students are also invited to teach, co-teach, or design workshops for the larger community based on their unique interests and professional experience.

  • 80 credits

After the completion of your core courses, students begin their supervised clinic. This residency- implemented within your own community- supports you as you integrate your studies and your unique practitioner style.

A vital component of your training to be a flower essence therapist involves maintaining accurate case records. This research serves a dual function: it sharpens your own skill as a practitioner, especially the ability to manage and direct the therapeutic goals of your client’s healing program. As well, case records benefit the larger public by contributing to the pool of clinical information upon which the knowledgeable use of the essences can be based.

The case studies developed for FES Certification are part of a larger, multifaceted research program coordinated by the Flower Essence Society. Thousands of case reports from around the world are collected and organized in our database. These reports are cross-referenced and listed in relevant therapeutic categories.
